Subir Lall is Assistant Director in the European Department of the International Monetary Fund, and the mission chief for Portugal. Prior to his current position, he has been mission chief for Germany, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia and the Netherlands. Previously, he was deputy division chief (in charge) of the World Economic Studies Division. His research interests and publications are in the areas of financial systems and crises, speculative attacks, contagion, financial market microstructure, and income inequality. He has a B.A. (first class with Honors) in Economics from the University of Delhi and a Ph.D. in Economics from Brown University, where he was the recipient of the Susan B. Kamins Fellowship.
